SPOT Cafe has air conditioning...apparently Javas does not. Bad Javas.

Javas gets much higher marks for its wireless though. Bad SPOT.

At least Matthews is next door and offers its wireless to SPOT patrons in what is surely a grand gesture of East End unity.

ROWE

I've been reading some about ROWE recently. It seems like a great idea to me. I do have a certain amount of flexibility in my current position, but I have worked in situations in the past that really sucked. I strongly believe that if you treat people like babies, they'll either act like babies or only stay till something (anything) better comes along.

With modern telecommunications and the cost of gas (and more importantly the effect of commuting on the environment, energy supply, etc.), it makes no sense to force a bunch of adults to drive to the same location every day from 8-5 only to sit in their offices, attend largely useless meetings, and face constant interruptions.

Why should anyone care about anything other than well defined results?

Geek Nirvana

So I've finally acheived (Web 2.0) geek nirvana. I'm sitting in a coffee shop blogging. The fact that this fact is what I'm blogging about and that no one reads my blog (really why would they unless I paid them) makes it all the sweeter.

ah innocence...

at dinner...

My daughter: I love chicken.
Me: (glad because getting her to eat dinner is never easy) Oh, that's great!
My daughter: Daddy, where does chicken come from?
Me: Uh..(thinking hard here)...from chickens.

Then I swear I could see the wheels turning in her head as she pictured chickens coming to our house to deliver chicken (a completely different thing from the animals themselves of course).

Beef and pork are so much easier in this respect.
